Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 Features, Price, Specs, And Release Date
The first Xiaomi Mi Pad was a game changer in the Android tablet category. Its biggest asset was its 8-inch IPS LCD screen, with a 1536 x 2048 that rivaled iPads that were twice as expensive. It also featured an Nvidia Tegra K1 – a blazing fast offering from Nvidia – and 2GB of RAM, while offering 16/64 GB storage options and expandable storage to boot. And Xioami managed to sell this beast of a device at a price as low as Rs. 13,000.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 could support dual-booting Android 6.0 and Windows 10
Needless to say, expectations from Xiaomi’s second tablet offering are high with such a pedigree. And it seems the company isn’t going to disappoint. Some images of what is purported to be the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 have surfaced on Weibo, a Chinese social network, and it seems the device will have a 10-inch screen in its second outing. Even so, some reports from China indicate that the tablet could support dual-booting Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Windows 10! Chinese website Mobile Dad reports that the tablet will be the first to support such a system.
Asus had tried to launch a similar offering in 2014, and even announced it to much fanfare at CES 2014. However, the tablet never actually reached store shelves, and reports suggest that the device was cancelled in March 2014 itself after Microsoft and Google objected to this dual-boot scheme. It remains to be seen how Xiaomi will deal with licensing issues between these two tech giants, and if it can indeed get them to sign off on this dual booting endeavour. Also Read – LG G5
On the specs front, the MiPad 2 is reported to feature the aforementioned 10-inch screen, a step up from the 8-inch screen of the first Mi Pad. This could, of course, mean that there will be two variants of the MiPad, one sporting an 8-inch screen which is more comfortable for reading, and the other with the 10-inch screen. This would, indeed, mirror the strategy Apple uses for its iPads. Either way, the screen is supposed to offer a 2560 x 1440 resolution, and 3 or 4GB of RAM. There have been conflicting reports about the processor of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2. Some sources indicate that it might be one of the first devices to feature the much-touted Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, which is supposed to fix all the heating issues with the 810, while some say that it will feature the latest 14nm SoC by Intel.
The Mi Pad 2 should be an absolute top of the line tablet from Xiaomi, and we should be seeing its official announcement sometime soon next year.
