The Movie ‘Pixels’ Is All Set To Enthuse The Gamer Inside You!
If you couldn’t get enough of video games as a child, Pixels is the movie for you. Remember spending hours on the likes of Pac-man, Donkey Kong, Tetris, and Space Invaders. Here is how you can watch them come to life. It all started in 2010, “Pixels” a French animated short film launched on YouTube, about an invasion of New York City by classic 8-bit video game characters. This two minute film won the Annecy Crystal for Best Short Film at the 2011 Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
Building on this idea is this upcoming 2015 American science fiction action comedy film produced by Columbia Pictures, 1492 Pictures and Happy Madison Productions. The film is directed by Chris Columbus from a screenplay written by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling and a screen story penned by Tim Herlihy.
The trailer leaves all the gamers grinning ear to ear. The storyline as based on the short film where a man walks over to a trash can, puts a 1980s-era television by it, and leaves. A few seconds go by, then the TV turns on and shows colored bars. An 8-bit picture of a bomb shows up and the simulated fuse runs out, causing the TV screen to shatter, releasing a cloud of pixels. The pixels fly over to New York City and head in various directions.
Space Invaders start to shoot downwards; on contact, the projectiles cause a delivery truck and two taxis to degenerate into pixels.
A cloud of pixels then flies down the stairs into a subway, eventually forming into Pac-Man, which eats the subway trains and stations as it travels the tunnels.
It’s the blast of seeing the Donkey Kong beat the star cast, The Pac-man chopping down the streets of New York City and the army personnel fighting with the patterns of centipede which comprises of the main attractions in this Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage starrer.
The plot is rather thrilling, in 1982, in the hopes of establishing peaceful communication with extraterrestrial life, NASA launches a time capsule into outer space containing images and footage of Earth life and culture. This however sends a wrong message and the aliens attack the Earth using the games as models for their various assaults including Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Their technology creates voxels that change form and are capable of turning any form of matter into more of itself.
This movie comes in 3D and is sure to be a hit with two generations of video gamers. Take your parents along after all they have played more Pac-man than you have and your kids after all its all about games. It releases on 24 of July in The USA and closely in other countries something tells me it’s going to be worth the hoopla and the wait.
