Pepsi Smartphone Specs, Price, Features And Release Date
Pepsi is launching a smartphone – yes, you read that right and no, this is not a drill. PepsiCo, the premier soft-drink maker of the world, is launching a phone. This isn’t a Pepsi co-branded phone by another manufacturer, or a partnership or tie-in or limited edition of any sort – this is a proper, honest to God, Pepsi phone.
Now Pepsi haven’t gone and hired engineers and opened a technology division just yet – they’ve presumably contracted a popular phone manufacturer to do it, but we don’t know which one yet. For what it’s worth, the device does have a certain Huawei aesthetic to it. While other brands have attempted a launch like this before – the recent Marshall London being an example, or even an ill-fated Kodak phone – all these attempts have been, in a word, disastrous.
However, it is at least seeming like PepsiCo have got their cards right this time. The spec sheet of the phone is impressive, to say the least. The Pepsi P1 – as it is called – comes equipped with a 5.5 inch 1920×1080 Full HD screen, 3GB of RAM, a 1.7Ghz MediaTek MT6752 processor, and a 3,000mAh battery. It sports a 13MP camera on the back, and an 8MP shooter in front. The system will be based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Also Read – Apple iPhone 7
The leak has come through a social media page on the popular Chinese website Weibo. Tech blog Mobipicker was the first to spot a Chinese Weibo page with the title “Pepsi Phone,” and translated tags like IT, Internet, electronic products, and mobile phone manufacturers. The Weibo page also mentioned China’s Shenzhen Technology Co., which works with tech firms like Konica Minolta, Brother Industries, and Xiaomi.
PepsiCo told Reuters that “this effort is similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories” and will only be available in China.
The real kicker here is, however, the price. The Pepsi P1 will be available in China for 1299 Yuan, or roughly Rs.13,000. These specs at this price range is an outright steal, so this phone could indeed get very popular. News of release outside China is not forthcoming at the moment, but we will update you as soon as there is word.
