Google hires Krafcik, former CEO of Hyundai for its SDC project

Google X has started the project of self driving car (S.D.C.), which basically aims at developing autonomous cars. Google Inc on September 14 2015 announced that they have hired John Krafcik as chief executive of its self-driving car.

John Krafcik is the former CEO of Hyundai Motors America and currently he is the president of automotive pricing terminal. Being a mechanical engineer, he had worked at a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors where he was an advocate of lean manufacturing. Krafcik has done his mechanical engineering from Stanford and also had a business degree. He had also worked as a chief engineer on the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator large SUVs. Also, he led US marketing and sale at Hyundai. He is also credited with the turning around Hyundai’s US operations, to increase its sales after the Great Recession.

The hiring of the former Ford, Hyundai and TrueCar executive signals an acceleration of Google’s nascent autonomous vehicle division, and may presage the Silicon Valley company’s intentions to enter the high-stakes automotive industry. Also Read – LG G5 Release Date

According to the statement given by Google, Google has a lot to learn about how people perceive their vehicles and how they would want to fit their technology into their lives. Earlier, the project of the self-driving car was headed by Chris Urmson and he will continue to do that along with Krafcik. The project of S.D.C was started in the year 2009 with an aim to revolutionize the automobile industry. Krafcik stated that it will be a nice alternative to assist Google to develop the big potential of self-driving cars.

Many other automobile companies like: – Mercedes, General Motors and Toyota are also trying to increase the automated features of the cars until they are able to succeed in achieving their aim of making vehicles which are capable of driving themselves. S.D.C. will surely help to reduce accidents and many other incidents and will help to provide safe and secure driving experience. Now, let us see whether Google and many other companies will be successful to achieve its aim of self-driving cars.
