The Cartel: Novel Turns Into A Movie
Don Winslow’s novel The Cartel has already been in the limelight enough time without any additional factor coming to its aid. The novel is inspired by true life events. It is a story about friendship and the sourness in that friendship between two friends. It follows them for ten years and shows the path of both of men, one of whom joins the DEA, whilst the other one gets involved in the drug cartel business. The novel is said to be based on the Mexican cartel man Joaquin Guzman, who was also known as El Chapo. Even though the novel is very loosely based on him, and is not the exact real tale, but it still touches reality in its own way.
The director Ridley Scott has decided to go back to the on-screen drug world and has chosen Winslow’s The Carter as his next project. He has reportedly shaken hands with Fox for the film, and he will be directing and producing the movie. The story of the two ex-pals Art Keller and Adan Berrera will be penned by Shane Salerno as the script. Also Read about Harper Lee’s new ‘Go Set A Watchman’
The newest reports in the case says that Leonardo DiCaprio is the first choice for the team to play Keller, a young Drug Enforcement Agency agent, and the actor himself is very much interested in the offer. He is in negotiating terms with the producers and the director, and as soon as everything is finalized, the news will be made publically official.
Since the novel has bagged much critical appreciation and has been doing well in the sales, the auction for the screen rights was tough as everyone wanted the movie in their arms, but Fox managed to win it with six million dollars, and with it, they won the rights to The Power of the Dog, which is a prequel to The Cartel.
Fans cannot wait for the movie to be made and hit the stands as the novel has been said to have a Godfather-like vibe, and it certainly has that potential.
