Abhishek Banerjee; Revealing the Dirty Secrets Of Mamata Banerjee
Indian political parties seem keen on shaming themselves or the families related to them. A comment on the opposition party, a remark on the working pattern or even a statement about their own party is enough to spark up a controversy. To facilitate this generation of controversies, rights activists and all political parties remain on the lookout to grab such situations. President of the All India Trinamool Youth Congress, Abhishek Banerjee, gave just the required amount of information for one such controversy.
At a recent rally in the Jungle Mahal district of West Midnapore, West Bengal, the TMC MP made some startling statements, that not only brought up the topic for discussion that the party carefully avoided, it also perhaps caused his aunt some embarrassment. According to a transcription of the speech from the rally, Abhishek Banerjee has put to prove the earlier allegations that Mamata Banerjee led government had killed the Maoist leader, Kishenji, in a state sponsored murder. He said that before Didi came into power, people were confused and terrorized, there were reports of murders everyday and the Maoists were the cause of unrelenting violence. But in the last 4 years, only one person has been killed and that is Kishenji.
Mallojula Koteshwar Rao, alias Kishenji, CPI (Maoist) Politburo and Central Military Commission Member was the in charge of West Bengal and the architect of the militant Lalgargh movement. He was killed in a state encounter in the forest of Burishole in West Midnapore on November 24, 2011 at the age of 57. His death came as a major blow to the Maoists.

The state government, after the killing, had claimed that it was pure accident that he had been killed in the encounter and it was in no way a pre planned murder. The West Bengal CM, Mamta Banerjee maintained that she or anyone else from the government had no role in the killing. But these reports were never acceptable to the rights activists and the opposition members. Everyone except the TMC demanded evidence proving that the death was indeed an encounter and not a staged murder.
With his recent statements, Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee has given damning proof against the much liked chief minister. Sparking a new debate, his praise for the killing and the subsequent reduction in violence in the state has generated a lot of criticism. While Mamata Banerjee has always claimed that she was in Delhi when the encounter took place, her nephew has gone out of the way and said that within six months of coming into power, the Mamata government was successful in the removal of the biggest force of resistance in West Bengal.
Reactions to these revelations are just as anyone would have expected. A human rights activist, Ranjit Sur, has called it a cold blooded murder. Similarly, the BJP national secretary, Siddharth Nath Singh has blamed Mamata for the state sponsored killing. The present CPI (M) Politburo Mohammad Salim has condemned Mamata by reminding us of her aggression when the former Maoist leader Azad was killed and she had demanded an inquiry. Her behavior is put in direct contrast with the use of state machinery when she came to power to kill Kishenji.
The debate is of the nature that it would not die down soon. The new revelations have only pulled another politician in the dirty business that is politics.
